Injuries a Growing Concern

Injuries have been a big part of the early part of this season for the Raiders. Currently, 15 players are listed on the injury report. Of those 15, seven are considered starters. This is a growing concern for the Raiders' success for the rest of the year, especially at QB, where Gradkowski has been beaten around behind a shoddy line. We need Gradkowski to be healthy if when are going to continue to progress as an offense. The coaching staff believes that Gradkowski is the player to lead this team to victory. If he's going to continue to get sacked 4 or more times/game, it's going to be very hard for him to do that.

Another point of concern with the injuries is how many of them are hamstrings. Nearly half (7) suffer from a hamstring injury. What can be causing this? Is it not stretching out properly before games or getting the right amount of hydration? Or could it be due to training? I think it is most closely linked to training. Players now are bulking up with weights to try and increase how much workload they can take. The problem is they are training the wrong kind of muscles to be able to make those quick movements and simply those muscles used for running. They are getting big and therefore able to take more of a pounding, but losing flexibility in the process. So much is put on the physicality of the game that maybe the simplest of concepts get overlooked.

What do you think? Do teams need to look at their training methods and adjust a little?
